If you’re the impulsive type, you might even assassinate the person you’re meant to be tailing before they have a chance to reveal any important information, and with the odd exception you still won’t fail the mission - you’ll just make it harder. Instead, you could perhaps climb to an elevated point to see if you can locate them again, or simply abandon the tail entirely and pursue an alternative such as hunting down the thief with the key, or even just head to the cathedral and see if there's a back door or some other way to sneak in. Mercifully there’s no mission fail in Unity if you fall too far behind or lose sight of your target. What ensued was a fairly typical tailing sequence - a mission type often derided in open world games - but there was a twist. Rather than run down the thief, Arno decided to follow the other criminals to try and find out more about the deal. A thief was observed stealing a key from a priest, while a couple of other shady figures were speaking in hushed tones about a criminal deal going down inside the cathedral. “If you can’t find a weakness to exploit, make one,” offered Arno’s companion, as the pre-mission cutscene camera swung helpfully between potential targets below in the surrounds of Notre Dame. ![]()
